CORPORATE AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Introduction

Friary Mill recognises its responsibility to ensure sound, ethical and environmental practices within the organisation and supply chain. We recognise that compliance to this policy may not be immediate, but we are committed to working towards this goal.

Our Corporate and Social Responsibility (CSR) refers to the way in which we regulate our business in order to ensure that all our activities positively affect society as a whole. Our CSR policies aim to guarantee that we work ethically, considering human rights as well as the social, economic, and environmental impacts of what we do as a business. We should meet, and aim to exceed, any relevant legislation, and if legislation does not exist in a particular area, then we ensure that we carry out best practices anyway.

Friary Mill commits to the following principles:

1.Conduct

We commit to maintaining high standards of personal conduct, and to practicing honesty and integrity in all our professional relationships and endeavors.

2.Ethical Business Practices

We conduct our business with integrity and honesty, avoiding bribery, corruption, and other unethical practices. This includes adhering to laws and regulations related to bribery and corruption, as well as maintaining high standards of corporate governance and transparency

3.Food Safety

Ensuring that all our products meet strict safety standards to prevent contamination, illness, and other health risks. This involves adherence to regulations such as HACCP and Good Manufacturing Practices.

4.Employee Practices

All workers are treated with respect and dignity. Friary Mill will ensure workers are treated fairly and ensure safe working conditions throughout the supply chain. Friary Mill does not tolerate any form of slavery, forced labour or human trafficking, whether directly within our own business or within the operations and activities of our suppliers, whether within the UK or Overseas.

We are committed to the well-being and continual development of our people, to continue cultivating and sustaining a workplace where employees are appreciated and valued, where each employee has a clear understanding of their role and how they contribute to the business.

5.Supply Chain Transparency

Clear visibility into our supply chain to ensure that ingredients and materials are sourced responsibly and ethically. Friary Mill will not knowingly use suppliers who violate applicable laws and regulations.

We aim to create and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and contractors. We aim to choose suppliers who share our ethos in relation to employment practices, quality, and environmental controls.

6.Sustainability

To source and purchase ingredients and materials in a way that minimises the impact of the environment, and to consider environmental impacts in our investment decision making process.

7.Marketing and Labelling

We ensure that our marketing and labelling practices are truthful, accurate, and not misleading to consumers. This includes providing clear and accurate information about ingredients, nutritional content, and any relevant certifications or claims.

8. Protecting the Environment

We are aware of our environmental impact as a business and have taken, and will continue to take, appropriate steps to mitigate this impact. We set environmental objectives and targets, employ procedures, and provide training to ensure our employees and contractors understand their environmental responsibilities and can seek to improve our environmental performance.

We are committed to reducing our environmental impact by encouraging greener transport, recycling where possible, and working with suppliers and contractors who share the same environmental values as ourselves, and by ensuring compliance with all appropriate legislation.

9.Compliance with Regulations

We comply with a wide range of regulations and standards set by government agencies and industry bodies to ensure the safety, quality, and integrity of our products. This includes regulations related to food labelling, advertising, and packaging, as well as standards for food additives, contaminants, and residues.

10. Community Engagement
We recognise and understand the significance of the local community within which we operate. We aim to enhance our contribution to the community by being sensitive to the needs of local people and groups, and by promoting ethical and socially responsible trading.

As a business, we are doing our bit to support local communities by:

  • Making monetary donations to local charities, youth groups and community centres
  • Supporting the surrounding community by employing local people and giving opportunities to young people from our local communities via apprenticeships and work experience.
